Women Connect First

I am passionate about topics relating to women and gender equality. Due to this interest, I volunteered as a magazine producer for the Welsh charity Women Connect First

I was responsible for the whole process of it: designing, lay-out, researching, interviewing, writing, taking photographs and editing. Apart from satisfying a personal vocation, I also gained a priceless experience in both fields, journalism specialised in women and page makeup.

The main objective of the WCF magazine was to become a meeting point between the charity and its clients. It provided information about the main activities and events going on in the charity. Its propose was that clients would feel identified with the subjects covered in the magazine, so it could strength the community feeling and also show to external readers an example of the help and services that the charity provides to BME women in Cardiff.

Aim of Women Connect First (as stated in its webpage)

Women Connect First was established on 1st March, 2001 to empower Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) women in Cardiff and South East Wales by providing them a range of free service of training courses to equip them with the required skills in order to be able to access employment. A range of Advice and Counselling service is also provided to give career guidance, support, advocacy and financial advice.

WCF is targeting particularly, disadvantaged, isolated and marginalised Black and Minority Ethnic Women, who are experiencing multiple layers of discrimination and exclusion in accessing services and employments. WCF mission is to empower BME women and help them fully integrate in the Welsh Society.
